Browsing del.icio.us I noticed some strange pattern. blogping747 posted several links to "Tag to Rank" website together with blogping402, blogping740, blogping686 and others, resulting in over 84 people total for each link. Which means the link will appear soon on "popular" del.icio.us pages (it's not there at the time of this writing - I guess del.icio.us has some delay managing its Popular pages). What the link was? The link was a website selling spam robot of a new kind. For over $300 they sell a robot which will automatically create load of new accouts and post given URLs to del.icio.us, shadows, simpy, magnolia and other bookmark websites, resulting in submitted link appear as "popular" submitted by many users. Well, looks like our life can become slighty more complicated. If the robot can break del.icio.us captcha then.. Imagine the world full of spam. What do you think we can do with the issue? We had a little discussion on modern spam here at Blogoforum. My suggestion: what if everyone on del.icio.us would be able to tag the spam link as "spam" without increasing its popularity? This would give us ability to at least identify spam. What would you suggest? - 1 reply

del.icio.us popularity - Up or Down?

Techcrunch shows us Comscore report where del.icio.us (well, actually delicious.com ) pageviews dropped by 75% comparing to April 2006. Well, according to Alexa stats, del.icio.us popularity is pretty stable. Michael's article has some interesting comments. Ted suggests that he don't bookmark often but do use del.icio.us as search and discovery tool - just like me! He also points that Stumbleupon refers a lot more traffic to his websites. Jason Schwartz suggests to keep del.icio.us simple since TechCrunch readers aren't mainstream users.

del.icio.us added "active users" - a list of users who use tag you are viewing. I love this feature, and Blogoforum proud to have "related authors" cloud starting from mid-June. - 1 reply

Spam? Folksonomy Helps

Hi Pete, Welcome to blogoforum. I haven't read the book you are talking about neither have seen complete reviews. I found another interesting thing however. A spammer has created at least 10 del.icio.us profiles and posted the link - http://del.icio.us/url/d4d868895a7ea15fc26864383213d4f7 to his webpage. I think he has tired after 10 submissions. So first thing which works good against spam is captcha. Next thing that helps is folksonomy. On 10 spammers, we can find 100 people willing to mark spam as "spam". People can do this on del.icio.us, people can do this on blogoforum: http://blogoforum.com/forum/tag/feature+forum+idea+talkinghub/new-feature-tag-the-message-you-are-replying-to-231.html That's how I see it for short. Incidentally, spammer's webpage refers to tag and ping website. - 3 replies

Delicious forums! I like it. Found the creator's link from a post over at joelonsoftware.com bussiness forums. This looks like an intersting service, if a little rough. Have you considered putting google ads on these pages? All the keywords would find good relevency for the placements. I was also wondering, have you considered taging all the posts here automatically on del.icio.us? - 3 replies
