Next morning we wake up with goose voices. Village population - gooses, cows, and a few of village people - looked on travelers with interest. Village people do wake up early. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277218879/" title="Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress Wall"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/97/277218879_7f340a9ad0_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress Wall" align="left" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277229979/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/86/277229979_2af55a458f_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress Tower" align="right" /></a>Well, short breakfast - and we are on a road to Kamianets-Podilskyi, famous for its medieval fortress. Interesting roof construction there - people used masonry works to create tower spikes. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277253117/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/100/277253117_163887ab05_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Kamianets-Podilskyi Wild Life" align="left" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277303376/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/114/277303376_698be61d2f_t.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="Kamianets-Podilskiy - bridge view" align="right" /></a> Take a look at who we spotted right inside the city line. <div style="clear:both; padding-top: 5px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277340930/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/117/277340930_24c6534a6a_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Jesus Window in Kamenets-Podilskyi Catholic church" align="left" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277349008/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/97/277349008_27eb47e036_t.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="Cat and Dog" align="right" /></a> Kamenets-Podilskyi is a very nice city. Interesting architecture, friendly people. Notable buildings among fortress are Catholic church, bridge thru Smotrych river, and City Tower. You can get a meal for US$6 - $10.</div> <div style="clear:both;">Or next stop is near <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Khotyn,+Ukraine&ie=UTF8&z=12&t=h&om=1&iwloc=A">Khotyn</a> for another medieval fortress.</div> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277566090/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/110/277566090_75ff39388d_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Khotyn Fortress Window" align="left" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/277571009/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/100/277571009_73676a85b8_t.jpg" width="75" height="100" alt="Khotyn Fortress Wall" align="right" /></a> Interesting ornament pattern on that fortress wall. Inside the fortress yard, you will see a big hole in the ground with BIG wheel for taking up the water. Fortress stays on Dnister river which flows from here up to Black Sea near Odessa. Nice hills near Dnister bank. We met a lot of tourists from near Poland here. Time to go! Our next stop is <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Chernivtsi,+Ukraine&ie=UTF8&z=12&t=h&om=1&iwloc=A">Chernivtsi</a> where we plan to set up a camp and stay on a wild park inside the city. To be continued... Well. How to tell about a whole country in one post? I'm asking for help. Hey Ukraine travelers, tell us a bit about places you like! Here is my story about our last travel to Karpathian mountains. Going to Karpathy, get a car and Ukrainian-speaking friend. Take a detailed map. The trip would be great. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/276519324/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/115/276519324_4fdb12a925_t.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="Kitty. 2 days." align="left" style="margin:0.5em;" /></a> We started from <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=odessa,+ukraine&ie=UTF8&z=12&ll=46.469315,30.735626&spn=0.148734,0.341606&t=h&om=1">Odessa</a>. 300 km north by E95 and we turn west near <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=uman,+ukraine&ie=UTF8&z=12&t=h&om=1">Uman</a>, on a path to Kamianets-Podilskyi. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dkrukovsky/276538252/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/122/276538252_a5630ab1b2_t.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="Nemoriff Factory." align="right" style="margin:0.5em;" /></a> Short of <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=vinnitsa,+ukraine&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=49.231621,28.56319&spn=0.070508,0.170803&t=h&om=1">Vinnitsa</a> there will be Nemiroff town, famous for its Horilka (russian Vodka) factory. Short after Khmelnytskyi we turned right and stopped for a night near some village. Initial plan was to set up a camp tent but hey, it was midnight! We decided to nap in a car. Well, over 540 km is done. Interesting to note how, speaking with people on a road while we move west, people start to use Ukrainian more and more. Odessa - our starting point - speaks Russian. <a href="http://blogoforum.com/tag/car+karpathian+mountains+photo+travel+ukraine/on-a-road-to-karpathy-day-2-4017.html">Day 2</a> Sun, 22 Oct 2006 16:42:44 GMT http://blogoforum.com/tag/car+karpathian+mountains+photo+travel+ukraine/traveling-karpathian-mountains-and-beyond-3998.html Why People Love Ukrainian Food http://blogoforum.com/tag/food+photo+travel+ukraine/why-people-love-ukrainian-food-2111.html Browsing what <a href="http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-489477-prod-travelguide-action-read-ratings_and_reviews-i" target="_blank">people are saying about Ukraine</a> I found them to be big fans of tasty food here.
