del.icio.us spammed with automated tool
Browsing del.icio.us I noticed some strange pattern.
blogping747 posted several links to "Tag to Rank" website together with blogping402, blogping740, blogping686 and others, resulting in over 84 people total for each link. Which means the link will appear soon on "popular" del.icio.us pages (it's not there at the time of this writing - I guess del.icio.us has some delay managing its Popular pages).
What the link was? The link was a website selling spam robot of a new kind. For over $300 they sell a robot which will automatically create load of new accouts and post given URLs to del.icio.us, shadows, simpy, magnolia and other bookmark websites, resulting in submitted link appear as "popular" submitted by many users.
Well, looks like our life can become slighty more complicated. If the robot can break del.icio.us captcha then.. Imagine the world full of spam.
What do you think we can do with the issue? We had a little discussion on modern spam here at Blogoforum. My suggestion: what if everyone on del.icio.us would be able to tag the spam link as "spam" without increasing its popularity? This would give us ability to at least identify spam.

Captcha?
Thanks for the post! Good idea - you see Blogoforum requires captcha for every post and is free from automated spam. It may seriously harm del.icio.us experience however. See - a user can spend 5 seconds entering captcha in maybe over 1 minute process of entering message. But it takes only 5 - 10 seconds to "bookmark" the link at del.icio.us. 5 seconds for captcha may be too much here.
