Blogoforum Blogoforum - Is Flickr a Folksonomy?

recent > tagging > folksonomy > flickr

Folksonomy is collaborative tagging:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folksonomy

Folksonomy is a system which allows a group of people to collaboratively tag some object.

Folksonomy is how talkinghub works. You can assign your own tags to a message you are viewing:

Two examples of folksonomy services given by Wikipedia are Flickr and del.icio.us . While del.icio.us is no question good example of folksonomy web links, what about Flickr? Does Flickr allows users to tag other's photos?

Folksonomy term inventor talks about Flickr

Well Flickr does allows to tag other's photos but it does it in different way then del.icio.us . I find del.icio.us tagging much more informative.

Thomas Vander Wal, author of term Folksonomy, suggests that Flickr is not a great example of folksonomy.
