Spam? Folksonomy Helps

Hi Pete,

Welcome to blogoforum. I haven't read the book you are talking about neither have seen complete reviews.

I found another interesting thing however. A spammer has created at least 10 del.icio.us profiles and posted the link - http://del.icio.us/url/d4d868895a7ea15fc26864383213d4f7 to his webpage.

I think he has tired after 10 submissions. So first thing which works good against spam is captcha.

Next thing that helps is folksonomy. On 10 spammers, we can find 100 people willing to mark spam as "spam". People can do this on del.icio.us, people can do this on blogoforum: http://blogoforum.com/forum/tag/feature+forum+idea+talkinghub/new-feature-tag-the-message-you-are-replying-to-231.html

That's how I see it for short.

Incidentally, spammer's webpage refers to tag and ping website.

RE: Spam? Folksonomy Helps

Yeah! This is exactly what I am talking about. Delicious should kick him off and ban him. He might have at least had the common sense to use 10 different accounts.

He deserves to be kicked off just for stupidity!

What if a few thousand people decided to do the same thing? The whole site would be useless to real users. He obviously read thwe book, and if that's what it's advocating it should be made illegal. Sean Wu should be banned off every bookmarking site on the net, along with the rest of the spammers.

Pete

Folksonomy at work

Well here is the story continues.

Steve came to Blogoforum and posted short message about his website full of affiliate links. He tagged it alot with keywords like traveling, traffic, system and wave.

Well it took 2 people to tag his message with keyword they think are appropriate. You can't find that message under traveling category anymore.

Update: the message is there now but it is dimmed since this is how Blogoforum shows out of place messages from August 16.
